Who Are We? Ice Mountain Adventures.
NATHAN WARD
Born on the tumbleweed plains of Colorado, Nathan is a professional photographer and writer with a true passion for world cultures and adventure. His expeditions have led him across Mongolia on a mountain bike following nomadic horse trails, a world-first around Hovsgol Nuur in a sea kayak, through post-Maoist Nepal on a classic Royal Enfield motorcycle and even an attempt to pedal down the highest volcano in the world, Ojos del Salado in the Atacama Desert of Chile.
Nathan’s stories and images have appeared in publications worldwide, including Outside Magazine, LIFE, Powder, Adventure Cyclist, CNN Traveller, Reader’s Digest and many more. (Check out www.nathanward.com) He writes and publishes his own adventure guidebooks and occasionally works as an adventure tourism consultant for international NGOs. He is an active member of the Society of American Travel Writers.
ANDREA SCHULZ
Pursuing poverty alleviation through tourism, Andrea works as a professional sustainable tourism consultant specializing in developing unique travel products that integrate local cultures and economies. A sample of her work includes - developing the Royal Heritage Trail in Bhutan, assessing adventure travel products in Sri Lanka for USAID, developing green conferencing for corporations in the USA and investigating the potential of an International Park of Ecotourism between Russia and Mongolia.
Andrea developed our sustainability ethic at IMA and assesses each of our trips to see how we can do better culturally and environmentally. She believes that travel and tourism represents one way that we can preserve cultures and promote livelihoods worldwide.
Plus, she loves a good adventure - Andrea recently pedaled, pushed and carried her mountain bike over a 17,754 foot pass in Nepal, ran from a rhino in Bardia National Park and knocked back a few cups of yak milk tea with Layap nomads in northern Bhutan.
ICE MOUNTAIN ADVENTURES
Ice Mountain is a tall beautiful peak in the Sawatch Range of Colorado. It’s also the most prominent peak on the skyline above my parents’ cabin outside of the ghost town of Tin Cup in Taylor Park. I’ve looked up at this peak my entire life and it has always symbolized beauty and adventure to me. One day I plan to climb it and ski it. Until then, I’ll just keep it in the line up and wait for that magical day to come.
